April Is Child Abuse Prevention Month
Taking Steps to End Child Abuse
CASA for Hunt County and the Crisis Center of Northeast Texas co-hosts an event at the Hunt County Courthouse; Taking Steps to End Child Abuse. This Courthouse ceremony recognizes efforts to battle child abuse.
To prepare for this event the community is asked to donate new or gently worn shoes for the cause. After shoes are collected, they are placed on the courthouse steps representing the nameless victims of abuse or neglect in our community.
During the ceremony members of the community, CASA, and Crisis Center volunteers, staff and board members, along with local dignitaries participate by Taking Steps to End Child Abuse by walking ceremoniously around the courthouse.
Once the event concludes, all of the shoes are donated to the Rainbow Room at Child Protective Services and to My Sisters Closet in Greenville, which benefits Women In Need.
Thanks to everyone who donated and participated in this event this year as it was a great success. Special Thanks to the Members of the Family Career and Community Leaders of America chapter at Ford High School. All of you really “stepped-up” and made this event a great success. You have set the bar high and we look forward to your continued support.
